Running in the summer holiday

For the past three weeks, every day at 19:00 I ran 2.5 km around my kibbutz (communal village), and for the first two weeks I had never finished a lap without stopping at least once. Last Thursday I have accomplished a full lap without any rest. As a C.F. patient this is a big deal as I have lung problems among other things. Because I have until Thursday I have set the target to run 5 km by the end of it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Monday I managed to run 3.5 km without stopping, I have also managed to have a better time when I got to the 2.5 mark, this shows my improvement.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Wednesday I finally managed to get to the 5km mark, although I had to stop after 4km, I have managed to do it after pushing my self to achieve this. Tomorrow I want to try to run the full 5km again and do it without stopping.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Thursday I managed to make the 5km I had set for myself a week ago. I have also managed to run the 5km without stopping, though I go really tired at the end.
Overall I have managed to meet my goals I have set for myself and doing so had managed to get in shape in over three weeks.

This will help me afterwards when I go back to play football in school.
For this year in football I want to keep my title of best goalkeeper but also help my team win the league.

the learning outcomes met:
  • undertake new challenges- started to run greater distances
  • increase awareness of strength and areas of growth- being able to run for long distances
  • shown perseverance and commitment in the activities- made myself go out and run at the same time everyday for three weeks
  • develop new skills- managed to develop running in three weeks

International Day- Talent Show

The Talent Show was the service project that I and three of my friends were working on for the past two months. Last week we finalised the rehearsals arrangements, seen below:
This year we had arranged the stage at the side and not at the front as such:
One thing that made a problem (not a big one, but noticeable nonetheless) was the fact that the white screen that was set up, under the Russian flag, for the movie could not be seen from the right hand side of the seating arrangement, due to the positioning of the piano. The movment of the piano was not in question because of its importance in the talent show and the white screen was taped to the wall. In order to make the people in the fa right see the movie, we asked them to shift to the centre only for the duration of the movie.
All four of us had different jobs. Yarubbi organised the order of the talent show, the rehearsal schedule and performed herself in the talent show. Pablo and Ndina were organising the backstage; sound, lighting and the music. As for myself I had the logistical part of covering the gym with carpets, hanging up the flags, setting the stage and the location of the chairs. Note: in this picture not all the chairs were brought to the gym.

There was some confusion caused when teachers made decisions that affected our planing. For example one idea I had was to get the stools to the gym before the talent show, whereas the teacher said that all the children should bring their own chairs from school. We reached a compromise that the stools were to be brought and ,due to lack of chairs, that years 10-13 would bring their own chairs. I believe that the compromise was actually the best way to set the chairs, but the fact that the teacher and us had different ideas and we failed to consult each other made some confusion.
Another confusion happened where both my group and the music teacher have decided on hosts for the talent show. This time we have presented the teacher our plans and he has neglected them and consulted us with it later on... After giving two year 9's a promise that they will host, while we have planned that a girl from our year will host alone. At the end all three of them hosted.

The conflicting ideas between our group and the teachers made some stuff impossible to execute from our planing. but some helped in the long run.
Me talking to the music teacher.

At the end of it all the talent show turned out to be really good. Everyone had a chair to sit on (including parent and teachers). There was no problem with the music played or the sound in general. The talent show was really good this year where students went up to me saying thank you for organising it better then last year. (I have no opinion on that part because I'm still in contact with last year's organisers)

Things that could have gone better:

  • More communication with the teachers.
  • Checking every part of the organisation and setup
CAS outcomes:

  • Show perseverance and commitment- As everytime a problem arised me and/or my friends had a solution.
  • Work collaboratively with others-It was mostly a group effort with some help from the teachers
  • Plan and initiate activities- The Talent Show was planned at the start of September and initiated on the 18th of October.

    Talent Show

Last week me, Pablo, Yarubbi, Ndina, and Michal started to work on the talent show for international day that will take place on the 18th of October. Right now we are working on the PA system and we set up a sheet where people can freely write down their names in order to let us know whether they would like to participate in the talent show. Another thing that we should do this week is to talk with Mr Russel, our music teacher, in order to ask him for help with the music.

    I aim to achieve:
Order and set up the PA system and stage.
Have the performances of the children run smoothly, without any problems
The learning outcomes that I plan to meet in this activity:
-increase awareness of my strengths and areas for growth
    -undertake new challenge
    -planned and initiated activities
    -worked collaboratively with others
-shown perseverance and commitment in my activity

Helping the C.F. community in Russia

last week I have gave a donation of medications to the Russian C.F. community, this is personally engaging and important because I have C.F.
C.F. is a genetic transferred disease that affect the pancreas, lungs and liver, and when not treated sufficiently it can be deadly. In Russia it is a problem because the country does not provide the necessary treatment like in my own country. This donation can help a person live like normal person for two months or 417 people for a day.
Throughout the last 3 years of my staying I have accumulated and excess of medicational pills that I never gotten to use. With a restock for 6-7 months every 6 months I have enough for myself and some left over. Once I heard that there is a C.F. community in Russia I wanted to help in any kind of way, so I decided to give away some of my own medications.

The overall count of the pills was:139XCreon
    100XColeracin
    11XReolin
    6XCifrodex
    5XMoxyvit

This service is considered to be of global importance, as people that have C.F. are not properly treated due to lack of medications. Also it is considered to be ethical as im helping people with C.F. live like normal people for the first time and with no charge, which is abnormal in Russia.

    Football- End of Season

Throughout this year every Thursday (excluding holidays) I have attended the school's football league. I played as a goal keeper and once or twice as attacker. my overall scoring reached 6 goals and 19+ clean sheets (posting for the league didn't go every week and I think three weeks worth of clean sheets were not counted, so I have no idea on the actual amount). I have developed my skills as goalkeeper from the start of the year as I had more clean sheets and saves. I have a lot of assists ,which do not count on the league posting, but it shows that I have communicated with my team mates.
by the end of this year my team , the Galacticos managed to get second place and I got to be the best goalkeeper of season 2012-2013.

    School 9 Art Fair

About a month ago, school 9 (primary school) had an Art fair and the activities there were organised by a group of year 12, which includes myself.me and three other friends had made two activities: the first making figures out of play dough and the second making masks.
In the first activity we had a group of kids from different age groups with the oldest ones attending year 5 and the youngest ones from year 3. we made the children go into groups of four and each group was to make a group creation, because we feared that there wasn't enough play dough. At the end there was enough, so the children could choose if they wanted to work as a tea or go solo. most of them combined the ideas, each team came up with an area in which there figures were connected and made different figures.

I believe that the children had fun as they were all happy at the end. I also had fun and I was touched when one group had made something for us as a gift.

In the second activity we had children from year 2 and year 4. the activity was making masks and each person could make his own with what ever design he or she could want. At first the children didn't know what to make so we gave them a few ideas and two of us even made their own masks by the end. we had some problems with lack of equipment like the lack of string that was used to tie the mask  but it was resolved at the end. All the kids there left with at least on mask and they seemed happy with their masks by the end.

as for myself i believe that from the art fair I have developed my artistic skills as I have been helping some of the kids. I engaged in a new kind of activity by managing an activity with other to give to young kids, younger than I ever had to instruct. I also worked collaboratively with three other people to make this planned activities.

    football

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nze9URDlBro&feature=youtu.be
I returned to play after a break of about a month because of the holiday and a week where i forgot my football kit at home.
the lack of playing in that moth took its toll where i had no clean sheets (I believe) and complete frustration  at myself and my team.
i lacked communication with my team mates which in turn made me be in a situation of having no defence and struggling to keep my net goalless.
nevertheless i did have some good save including one that after it I had to lie down because of the pain the was a result of stopping someone from shooting one metre away form me, it wasn't a goal but it did hurt a lot

    CAS outcomes

increase awareness of your strengths and areas of growth- becoming a good goalkeeper take time and from the start of the year i think that i have improved a lot, managing to save most shots that are shot against me.

worked collaboratively with others- there is no I in team, my fault is also everybody's fault and the same goes to their fault is my fault.

shown perseverance and commitment in their activities- if you see in the video the last match between the blues and the greens the goalkeeper changes, that was a game after i stopped the shot form one metre away and it was still hurting, but I couldn't leave my team without a goalkeeper so i stayed in goal until it became unbearable. i was substituted by the red goalkeeper but in the last match I insisted to play
