The Talent Show was the service project that I and three of my friends were working on for the past two months. Last week we finalised the rehearsals arrangements, seen below:
This year we had arranged the stage at the side and not at the front as such:
One thing that made a problem (not a big one, but noticeable nonetheless) was the fact that the white screen that was set up, under the Russian flag, for the movie could not be seen from the right hand side of the seating arrangement, due to the positioning of the piano. The movment of the piano was not in question because of its importance in the talent show and the white screen was taped to the wall. In order to make the people in the fa right see the movie, we asked them to shift to the centre only for the duration of the movie.
All four of us had different jobs. Yarubbi organised the order of the talent show, the rehearsal schedule and performed herself in the talent show. Pablo and Ndina were organising the backstage; sound, lighting and the music. As for myself I had the logistical part of covering the gym with carpets, hanging up the flags, setting the stage and the location of the chairs. Note: in this picture not all the chairs were brought to the gym.
There was some confusion caused when teachers made decisions that affected our planing. For example one idea I had was to get the stools to the gym before the talent show, whereas the teacher said that all the children should bring their own chairs from school. We reached a compromise that the stools were to be brought and ,due to lack of chairs, that years 10-13 would bring their own chairs. I believe that the compromise was actually the best way to set the chairs, but the fact that the teacher and us had different ideas and we failed to consult each other made some confusion.
Another confusion happened where both my group and the music teacher have decided on hosts for the talent show. This time we have presented the teacher our plans and he has neglected them and consulted us with it later on... After giving two year 9's a promise that they will host, while we have planned that a girl from our year will host alone. At the end all three of them hosted.
The conflicting ideas between our group and the teachers made some stuff impossible to execute from our planing. but some helped in the long run.
At the end of it all the talent show turned out to be really good. Everyone had a chair to sit on (including parent and teachers). There was no problem with the music played or the sound in general. The talent show was really good this year where students went up to me saying thank you for organising it better then last year. (I have no opinion on that part because I'm still in contact with last year's organisers)
Things that could have gone better:
Show perseverance and commitment- As everytime a problem arised me and/or my friends had a solution.
Work collaboratively with others-It was mostly a group effort with some help from the teachers
Plan and initiate activities- The Talent Show was planned at the start of September and initiated on the 18th of October.
